Hello friends,
I’m Pastor Brian Hughes, thank you for visiting our website and for allowing me the opportunity to tell you about myself and the people of Chena Valley Baptist Church. I grew up as a Baptist preacher’s kid and went to church my whole life. My parents moved to Alaska in 1989. I met my wife Daisy at the Alaska Job Corps in Palmer, AK in 1995 and we were married in June of 1997. Although I went to church for all my life it wasn’t until I was 25 years old that I trusted Christ as my savior. A few years later God put a burden on our heart to reach out to lost souls in rural Alaska and we surrendered to the ministry in August of 2009, we made several trips out to various villages with missionary brother Gary Hampton and in 2015 we answered Gods call to go to Bethel, Alaska and reach out to the people of the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta with the gospel of Jesus. We were blessed to spend three years out there and took opportunity after opportunity to share the gospel with everyone we could by visiting people of the villages in the surrounding area as well as the local folks of Bethel. In 2018 the Lord moved us out of Bethel and back to Fairbanks where our ministry had begun just ten short years earlier. We were excited to be back with our friends and loved ones of Chena Valley Baptist Church (which was still a mission work out of Rogers Baptist Church at the time). The people of the church asked me to pastor upon their organization into an autonomous body of Christ in February of 2019. I accepted the call and now I look forward to being part of what God is doing with this great group of people.
We strive to be non-judgmental because we know that God meets us where we are, how we are, and he loves us just the way we are…Romans 5:8 says “But God commended His love toward us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”However, he loves us SO MUCH that he does not want us to stay that way so he sent his Son Jesus Christ to die for our sins so that we could be born again spiritually and made a new creature in Christ having our sins forgiven and eternal life given to us.
We the people of Chena Valley Baptist Church want you to know that we love you and more importantly that you are loved by the Lord. We would like to be a blessing to you, and we encourage you to stop in and worship with us this coming Sunday morning.
In service of the King,
Pastor Hughes
